How to enable turbo mode on a laptop?

As practice shows, each user has at least once encountered the problem of low productivity ("slowing down" the work) of the device. In this article we will talk about Turbo Boost technology - what it is, what it is for. We are sure that many have heard about her, but are unlikely to be able to accurately answer these questions.

Appointment

Technology Turbo Boost (from the English. "The emergence of a vortex") increases the performance of the laptop by automatically increasing the processor clock speed (cores) at the time of high load. In this case, the rated power, temperature and current do not exceed the "critical level". Created by Intel for Core I5, I7 processors.

Important. If you have a modern device, the Intel Core i5, i7 central processor, then the smart overclocking technology is most likely supported by the processor, but not activated. After installing the drivers and making settings, the mode works by default.

Features of turbo activation on a laptop

Laptop mobility is provided by the possibility of battery power. At the same time, the system compensates for the time to continue the autonomous use of the device by reducing its own resource consumption. One of them is a decrease in the processor clock speed.

In previous BIOS versions, the user was given the opportunity to run this mode, to make settings on their own. In modern devices, the manufacturer tries to limit as much as possible any interference with the processor, so this is not provided. The mode is activated as follows:

Turn on Turbo Boost through the Windows interface

We give the algorithm:

  1. Open the "Control Panel" - "Power". We select (put a daw) opposite the High-performance power scheme. If there is no such parameter in the first window, then open the circuit settings (see figure)
  2. Next section. Follow the link to "Change advanced power settings"
  3. The "Power" window opens, look for "CPU Power Management".
  4. To enable Turbo mode it is necessary: to put 100% opposite The minimum and maximum state of the processor from the battery and the network. If this indicator decreases, the mode will automatically turn off the OS.

Important. Many manufacturers (Lenovo, Sony, etc.) in the set of drivers for the device supply their power managers.

Activate turbo mode via BIOS

This method of enabling the mode on the device is recommended for experienced users who do not need to describe in detail how to enter the BIOS. Its main goal is to reset all settings to factory settings.

  1. We enter the BIOS.
  2. Below we are looking for the subsection "Load Default".
  3. We reset all settings to default values.

Check mode operation

Intel has developed the Turbo Boost Technology Monitor program to verify the health of the mode. It can be downloaded for free from the manufacturer’s website. She is not "heavy" only 23MB. Installation and operation will not be particularly difficult even for an untrained user. Procedure:

  • We click on the exe file on the laptop, follow the instructions of the installation wizard.
  • After full installation, the program dialog box opens. The nominal processor frequency is indicated at the bottom of the window.
  • You can see the Turbo Boost mode in operation if you enable video broadcasts or start the game.
  • If the mode is not turned on, then follow the instructions described above.
