How to connect a tablet to a TV via HDMI

Over the past two decades, tablets have become a familiar and sought-after device for many. It is difficult to overestimate their advantages - compactness and ease of use. But in some cases, the small size of the tablet screen is a disadvantage, and there is a desire to use a TV to watch. In this article, we will describe in detail how to do this via HDMI.

How can I display an image from a tablet on a TV

Someone may ask: "Why connect via HDMI - is it possible otherwise?" Indeed, there are many options for connecting a tablet to a TV receiver. Of the main ones, one can distinguish:

  • HDMI connection
  • USB sync
  • analog connection with RCA connector (aka “tulip”);
  • connection via VGA port;
  • WiFi connection (currently used by WiFi-Direct and promising, but so far little found Wi-Fi Miracast);
  • specialized services of a number of manufacturers that allow connecting televisions and gadgets of their production (for example, AirPlay from Apple or AllShare from Samsung).

We’ll tell you about the connection via HDMI, since it, on the one hand, ensures the transmission of the highest quality video signal (after all, for this it was developed), on the other hand, it can be used on all devices regardless of manufacturer.

How to connect a tablet to a TV via an HDMI cable

Consider the methods of such a connection:

  1. Directly. If you are the owner of a device with the appropriate connector, then to connect you just plug the HDMI cable into the appropriate connectors. In some cases, even the setup will then start automatically. If this did not happen, then go to the TV settings and select the desired port as the signal source, and on the tablet, respectively, to output the signal. The process is over!
  2. Via micro-USB port. If the device does not have a corresponding connector, the HDMI to MicroUSB adapter will help, although the picture quality will be worse. Before buying such an adapter, you need to make sure that the tablet supports the MHL standard, which allows you to simultaneously transfer the image and recharge. Most often, such an adapter is called: MHL adapter. It costs a little and is sold in most computer stores.
  3. Through the updated standard 2.0. Compared with the current version, it provides the most accurate picture with a resolution of 4K. The devices supporting it have just begun to appear, but there is reason to believe that in the next two or three years, HDMI 2.0 will become ubiquitous.

After you connect the tablet to the TV, you can:

  • Broadcast a high-quality video signal from a mobile device;
  • use it as a smart set-top box;
  • View family photos
  • work in applications (Viber, games, etc.);
  • Show presentations on a wide screen.

Now you know what you need to connect your tablet to the TV via HDMI.
