The printer does not print in black

Some users of modern printers have encountered such a problem as the lack of black color when printing documents or images. The absence of one of the primary colors when printing can be caused by a variety of problems, and some of them are quite amenable to independent correction if the user has minimal skills in using office equipment.

This article will discuss the main reasons why the printer may stop printing with black ink, as well as a few tricks for self-troubleshooting.

Why doesn't the printer print in black?

The main problems that cause the lack of black color, specialists in the repair of office equipment include:

  • Mechanical damage to the PG (print head)
  • Drying nozzles or clogging GHGs
  • Unsuitable Ink or Missing Ink
  • Unprofessionally refilled cartridge
  • Ink problems
  • Software issues (faulty drivers)

In cases where there is a suspicion of problems with the print head, it is recommended to use the help of specialists from service centers. The print head is one of the main elements of the device, and if the GHG is damaged, it is most often not subject to repair. Most likely, experts will propose replacing the damaged part with a new one.

Reference! In cases where the general condition of the printer is far from ideal (for example, when the device is outdated over the years of operation) it will be much more profitable to purchase new equipment than to replace the GHG from the old one.

Inappropriate ink

However, it is far from always the reason for the lack of black color lies precisely in the GHG, and more often than not, first of all, you need to check the level and quality of ink refilled into the device. In order to understand whether ink is compatible with the device, you should find information about the type of ink on the jar in which they are stored.

The easiest way to get rid of an ink problem is to replace the cartridge with a new one. If the printer stopped printing in black because the material in it has run out, you can independently refill the old cartridge.

Driver issues

Often, the cause of the malfunction may lie in the printer drivers. In order to return the device to full operation, you should:

  1. Find the latest software version for your printer on the official website of the software manufacturer.
  2. Download new drivers and install them
  3. Print text test page

If reinstalling the drivers did not solve the problem, this can only indicate a different kind of problem with the device.

Dried ink

The printer may refuse to print in black even if the ink in the nozzles dries up or the print head becomes clogged. In order to clean the GHG, you will need to rinse it with a special tool, then, after 15-20 minutes of “drying”, the GHGs are put in place, the printer is started and the function of head cleaning or enhanced head cleaning is selected in its settings. This procedure can be repeated several times with pauses of 15-20 minutes.

Reference! Cleaning the print head is not a repair measure, but a preventative one, and it should be periodically carried out on any printing device. You can find out how often to clean from the operating instructions.

The ink in the nozzles may dry out when the device has not been used for quite some time. In order to clean the nozzles, you can wipe them with a cotton pad slightly moistened with alcohol.

Poor refueling

It also happens that the equipment refuses to work normally even after refilling high-quality ink from a trusted manufacturer. This can occur due to improper gluing or incorrect insertion of the cartridge. Fortunately, fixing such issues is fairly straightforward. It is only necessary:

  • Pull out the cartridge and reinsert it until it clicks
  • Seal the hole from the syringe needle with adhesive tape
  • Ready-to-use device to run in test mode.

All manipulations with the equipment should be done as carefully as possible so as not to damage the fragile plastic parts of the device.

If none of the above measures helped to restore the printer, you should contact the repair center with a problem. Specialists will quickly find and fix the problem, saving the user time and nerves.
