Why do singers need an earphone in the ear on stage

Each performer strives for the perfect sound of the voice, completely falling into the rhythm and exceptional hearing. That is why they resort to some tricks that help them to perform their work efficiently.

Why do singers need an earphone in their ear

A singer performing on a large stage in front of an audience needs to have not only professional vocal skills, but also the equipment required for good acoustics.

Often there are headphones in the ears of the singer, performing his songs. Why do vocalists put on their ears exactly when we sing?

Functional purpose

The performers insert the earphone into the ear, as it is a personal monitoring system and it helps the artist to hear himself on stage. This is because during a noisy concert the speakers are aimed at the audience, and the performer himself can hardly hear the playing melody. Moreover, the sounding music is reflected from the surrounding surfaces and does not allow the artist to feel the rhythm and control the tonality of the song. The merging voices of the inspired audience drown out the singer's voice. The performer often begins to fake, lose his rhythm and feel less confident.

In a special monitoring system, namely in headphones, the artist hears the melody of his own song in synchronization with the sound from the speakers. The headset is a kind of conductor for the artist, which helps to orientate and enter on time. Depending on the desires of the artist, modern equipment models allow you to adjust the sound at the request of the speaker. You can focus on the singer’s vocals, or you can focus the sound on musical instruments. Innovations in the personal monitoring system have reached the level where only one voice is heard in one ear, and a song melody in the other.

The headset also comes in handy for the performer for something else. For example, in them the concert organizers can inform him of any changes in the script, or unforeseen circumstances.

REFERENCE! Sometimes you may notice that the artist pulled the earphone out of his ear during the performance. This speaks either of high professionalism, since far from every singer can adapt to the sound of a noisy hall. Or that the device suddenly became malfunctioning. Another explanation for this decision is that the artist took off his earphone in order to better hear the fans, to be closer to them and talk to them personally.

The personal monitoring system is also used by other musicians on the stage, in particular, drummers and guitarists.

The whole system consists of the headset itself, the receiver and the included transmitter. For professional performers, the device is custom-made, according to an individual cast of the ear.

Headphones are most often used on large venues, but never used on acoustic concerts.

What kind of headphones are used

One of the most common types of headsets for singers is reinforcing headphones. Their advantage over others is that they are able to transmit detailed sound with all its nuances. They sound balanced across the entire frequency range. Traditional headphones cannot be hidden from television cameras. Whereas the reinforcing bars are quite miniature to go unnoticed.

Dynamic headphones are a less convenient but more affordable option for speaking to the public. They are arranged according to the same system that is used in huge columns. They look like an ordinary wired headset, which you can hide only under clothes. The sound in them does not differ in quality. They are also called ear monitors.

We managed to find out that the headset in the singer’s ear is not part of the image, but a special device, which is very difficult to manage on stage.
