Is it worth buying a 4K TV

If earlier, when choosing a TV, only one criterion was taken into account - whether it is color or not, now we have to take into account much more nuances. Televisions differ in diagonal, functionality and, of course, screen resolution. And if recently, Full HD was the limit of dreams, now they won’t surprise anyone, because new 4K technology has appeared.

What is 4K TV?

The very first prototype TV with a 4K matrix resolution was introduced back in 2004, and only in 2012 a single Ultra HD standard was adopted. It differs from the usual Full HD in the number of pixels, the number of which is 3840x2160. That is, its horizontal resolution is almost 4000 pixels. Hence the name of the 4K format.

Due to the fact that this format provides a very clear image and is rich in color reproduction, such televisions are very popular with buyers. In addition, the matrix is capable of delivering a high frame rate and the contrast of black and white. So, the frequency of 4K TVs is about 120 frames per second, and the number of transmitted colors is 69 billion. Image quality is very high.

REFERENCE! Many experts in this field and a number of manufacturers confidently argue that it is precisely this technology that has the future in television. Many manufacturers of digital technology already offer a sufficiently large selection of Ultra HD models.

Pros and cons of 4K TVs

Like any other technology, 4K has a number of advantages and disadvantages. Before deciding whether to take such a TV to replace a Full HD device, you need to familiarize yourself with the pros and cons of the new technology.

The pluses include:

  1. 4K technology is actively developing and in the near future will be distributed everywhere. Due to the fast pace of development of network technologies and the general increase in the speed of Internet networks, 4K video can be watched online. So we can expect the transition of television broadcasting to a similar resolution.
  2. Such an innovation can significantly improve the Full HD signal, making full-resolution video look much better.
  3. Modern cameras take pictures with higher quality than Full HD, so they look much better on monitors with a resolution of 4K.
  4. The amount of Blu-ray content in 4K resolution is growing rapidly every day.
  5. Due to the high frequency of the scan, dynamic scenes preserve the sharpness of the image, and the smallest details of the image are not lost.
  6. There are already quite a lot of films on the network in 4K resolution. Modern TVs have both the Smart TV function and the ability to read from external storage devices. Therefore, new generation TVs allow you to view the necessary content in Ultra HD resolution.
  7. Ultra HD monitors and televisions are ideal for gamers. Due to the high clarity of the picture and the fast change of frames per second, they allow you to get the most out of the gameplay, because game developers every year offer games with increasingly realistic graphics.

REFERENCE! In Russia at the moment, one of the satellite communications operators is already broadcasting several channels in 4K resolution.

High-definition televisions have few drawbacks, however, they are quite significant and currently outweigh all the advantages. The main disadvantages:

  1. The biggest minus is the almost completely missing content. Despite the fascinatingly beautiful and clear picture, there is practically nothing to watch on such a TV. Of course, the film industry does not stand still and the number of released films in 4K format is growing every year. manufacturers also offer various media players with already recorded films. For example, such a company produces Sony. However, there are only ten films, and the price of the device is quite noticeable. Game designers cannot please either, there is no large assortment of games in this resolution yet. The XBox One and PS4 consoles also do not have a variety of content, mainly streaming games, of which there are very few. The Internet is also not happy with the variety and quantity of high-resolution media. And if in many countries, for example, the USA and Japan, television is actively developing in this direction, promising in the near future a complete transition to broadcasting in 4K resolution, then in Russia this is not so rosy. At the moment, only 6 satellite channels are broadcasting in the country.
  2. The second tangible drawback is the cost. It significantly exceeds the price of full-resolution televisions. Prices for flagship models can sometimes reach one million rubles. The average price is about 200,000 rubles.
  3. It is also necessary to consider that the human eye at a short distance is not able to see the difference in resolution.

Is it worth buying a 4K TV

The question is rather controversial. Since technology has both pros and cons. If you look ahead, at a time when there will be a lot of content, and the prices will not be so sky-high, the purchase will be justified. Moreover, with a good level of English, you can always use streaming services like Amazon or Netflix, which have recently been trying to produce films and TV shows with a resolution of 4K.

However, if at home there is a good Full HD TV, which suits all the parameters, then it makes no sense to change it to 4K.
