DIY hammock for guinea pig

Pet hammocks are sold at pet stores. But the price of such products is always high. You can make a house construction with your own hands. It will take a little time, but save a budget.

What can be done

When choosing a fabric, you need to pay attention to strength and density. The following fabrics work well:

  1. Fleece.
  2. Denim.
  3. Cotton.
  4. Velours.

There are types of fabric that do not fit. Among them:

  1. Linen.
  2. Silk.
  3. Satin fabric.

To sew a hammock you need the following materials and tools:

  1. A piece of dense matter. An unnecessary blanket or jeans are good for this.
  2. Sinteponovaya or fleece fabric. It will be used as a sublayer.
  3. Tape measure or ruler to measure.
  4. Threads.
  5. Pencil.
  6. Scissors.
  7. Needle.
  8. Cardboard. If you plan to make a hammock house.
  9. Decoration items (ribbons, buttons).

Design and mounting features

In the process of creating a structure, you need to pay attention to some features:

  1. The spaciousness of the accessory. It should be comfortable for the animal.
  2. Remove excess thread. It is important that they do not stick out. If the pet starts to nibble them, the design will break.
  3. It is also necessary that the hammock does not sag. This can lead to curvature of the spine of the animal.

Attention! If the guinea pig ignores such furniture, put the animal’s favorite food in it.

DIY hammock for a guinea pig: step by step

Work will depend on the type of construction chosen. The easiest way to sew is rectangular and angular. And for a hammock in the form of a house you have to try a little.

Rectangular

To create a rectangular model you need:

  1. Cut 2 identical pieces of fabric. The length will be about 50 cm and the width about 30 cm. Also cut another piece of material for the interlayer (fleece). The length is less by 15-20 cm.
  2. The edges of identical pieces are sewn together so that the wrong side is outside. One of the edges must be left unstitched.
  3. Now we turn the finished product on the face. We put inside the previously cut fleece.
  4. Need to sew up the last edge.
  5. We make holes in the angular sides and thread the ropes.
  6. We attach the product to the rods.

Angular

Creating an angular model is also simple:

  1. We measure the angle of the cell. We cut out 2 identical pieces of a triangular shape from the selected fabric. This piece will have 2 short sides (legs are called mathematics), and 1 short side (hypotenuse). The size of the hypotenuse is about 60 cm, and each leg is about 40 cm.
  2. Cut a piece of interlayer (fleece). The shape is also triangular. But the sizes of the sides are 10-15 cm smaller.
  3. The cut piece of fleece is folded between two pieces of fabric.
  4. Sew all the edges.
  5. Corner parts of a hammock we pass ropes. But in this case, carbines are better suited.
  6. We install a hammock in the corner.

Attention! Making a hammock lounger is more difficult because you need more material and time.

Hammock

The process of creating a hammock lounger is as follows:

  1. We need to make several patterns of different sizes.
  2. One of the parts will serve as the basis, so it should be larger than the rest. The average length is about 60 cm and the width is 150 cm.
  3. Now cut 2 pieces of fabric in the shape of a rectangle. The length is about 50 cm and the width is about 60. A roof will be made of these pieces.
  4. The fabric that was cut out for the roof is sewn inside out. Leave 1 edge unstitched. Then we turn on the face. Inside we put a piece of cardboard. Sew the last edge.
  5. In a large piece of fabric (which serves as the basis), it is necessary to wrap a synthetic winterizer or piece of cardboard. You can stitch the edges.
  6. Now you need to sew the roof to the base.
  7. The last step is to cut out the back wall. This stage is optional, but thanks to the pattern, the hammock will be safer for the animal. Cut two pieces of fabric in the form of a semicircle (one edge should be straight). Now we sew three sides, put a piece of cardboard inside, and sew the last side.
  8. The back is sewn to the roof of the product with the straight side. The bulge is to the base.
  9. The last step is to install the ropes to the roof.
  10. The product is ready.
