Cutting glass with a professional tool is easy and convenient (especially after a series of unsuccessful attempts). But, firstly, not everyone has a glass cutter. And secondly, in the case of a one-time action or rare use, is it needed at all? After all, a professional tool costs a lot, and cheap Chinese can sadden with its "quality and durability." And the result of the work, too. Therefore, I propose using methods that can do almost without cost, and eat the fish and not choke on the bone.
String line
The meaning of the technique is to first heat the cut glass, and then cool it sharply. Under the influence of a temperature difference, it will burst along the line of greatest contrast. The method is good if you need, for example, cut a glass bottle or jar.
To do this, you need to soak the wool thread in alcohol, acetone, white spirit or some other combustible liquid. The string is wrapped around the intended victim, and set on fire. Then it is cooled rapidly with running water. If successful, you will hear a characteristic click. If it did not work out the first time, you need to repeat the ritual.
The technique may not work on bottles with thick walls, such as champagne faustpatron. In the process of experiments, it is not bad to stock up on a fire extinguisher, otherwise the results can be very surprising, up to the arrival of EMERCOM employees and ambulances.
Soldering iron
A direct cut is not always needed, and in this situation, a file with a soldering iron will help out. There is no soldering iron - a device for burning on wood is suitable.
The process is long, but creative. First, glass is marked and a cut line is applied to it with a marker. Then, from the edge, at the beginning of the mark, a groove is made using a file, which will serve as a guide. Having retreated a couple of millimeters along the line, the glass is heated with a soldering iron until a crack appears from the furrow to the heating point. Then they retreat a couple more millimeters and repeat the process.
To make things a little faster, you can cool the glass with a damp cloth or dishwashing sponge.
Scissors
It’s worth mentioning right away - the technique allows you to cut thin glass, not more than four millimeters. When working, it is recommended to wear safety glasses and protect hands with gloves. You will need a tank with water, in which, in fact, everything will happen.
Water acts as a lubricant, allowing you to cut the desired shape with scissors. Whichever tool you hit does not work - you need something serious, like tailor's scissors. Cutting is carried out according to previously applied marking. The cutting force is comparable to what you need when working with hardboard.
Another nuance: the tank must be deep enough so that the layer of water above the glass immersed in it is large. As far as - it is checked empirically, at first it is worth experimenting with an unnecessary piece of glass.
Suitable methods for cutting plexiglass
The easiest way, without further ado, is to take an ordinary hacksaw for metal and make a neat cut on the marking. You can use the grinder (with the ability to handle it).
If you need to perform curly cutting, you have to refine it: a nichrome thread is connected to a 24-volt transformer, voltage is applied to it, and it burns a track of the desired shape in plexiglass.
How to cut hardened glass
The difference when processing ordinary and tempered glass is only in the fragility of the latter. A technique with a grinder and a diamond disk will do, but you need to work extremely carefully. A soldering iron method may also come in handy (depending on the thickness of the material), and the focus with water and scissors will not work out exactly.
How to do hole under the handle
There are several options - either drill with a drill with a victorious nozzle, arranging the surface of a plasticine bath with camphor and turpentine, or by the thermal method. For this, wet sand of fine fraction is applied to the glass in the glass, and using a sharpened rod, a funnel is made in it, where it is dripped with molten solder or lead. After a couple of minutes, sand and solder are removed.
