How to create a folder using the keyboard

You can create a new folder in two ways - by calling the context menu or using a combination of hot keys. The latter method can be useful to users who constantly create a large number of these elements. Using a combination of buttons on the keyboard allows you to speed up work and increase productivity. Opening the context menu using the keyboard can be an excellent alternative to a computer mouse in the absence or malfunction.

First of all, you need to go to the category where the future folder will be placed. This place can be the Explorer, the desktop, or any free directory on the local disk. Directly the creation process is as follows:

  • First of all, you need to choose a place to place and press the key combination Ctrl + Shift + N;
  • After a successful combination, a new folder will appear - you can immediately rename it or press Enter and leave it with the original name.

REFERENCE! Usually, the keyboard has two Ctrl and Shift buttons, one on each side. However, the creation process will have absolutely no effect on which buttons to use in combination.

This simple way allows you to create new items without using a mouse. This can come in handy if it is broken or missing. An additional advantage is the high speed of creation, because with the help of a combination of hot buttons, all the necessary actions occur quickly and allow you to significantly speed up the work in the operating system.

In addition to using a combination of hot keys, you can use the usual context menu to create a new folder, only without using the mouse. Being in a local disk, explorer or desktop window, you need to perform the following manipulations:

  1. Press the "Call the context menu" button on the keyboard. It is located in the bottom row of the keyboard, between the Windows and the Internet buttons. On laptops, to save space, the shortened version of the keyboard layout is most often used, so the "Menu Call" can be between the Alt and Ctrl buttons.
  2. After the menu appears, you need to click on the F key, which will open the "Create" tab.
  3. Now you need to press the G key, which will create a new folder. Then you can change its name and use it as intended.

Compared to the previous one, this method of creation is more time consuming and takes a little longer.

When working with a large number of documents, it may be necessary to frequently open a certain folder. In order not to search for it in the catalog on the taskbar, or not to minimize windows and documents, you can set a certain combination for its opening.

ATTENTION! In operating systems Windows 7, 8, 10 is not provided for the use of key combinations for the original folder. To use the selected combination, you need to create and use its shortcut.

To create a shortcut, proceed as follows:

  1. Right click on the selected folder and open the pop-up menu. In it, select the line "Send".
  2. In the opened tab you need to select the line "Desktop (create shortcut)". After activating this item on the desktop shortcut appears. Further work is needed with him.
  3. Click the right mouse button on the new label. In the menu that opens, select "Properties".
  4. Next, you need to set the cursor in the item "Quick call" and press any English letter on the keyboard, for example, X. Note the text in the menu will change from the word "No" to "Alt + Ctrl + R". Now, when you press this key combination, a shortcut will open, followed by the letter R.

Using the designated combination to quickly open a folder, you can save time and speed up the solution of the tasks.
